Job Description
Senior Microsoft Copilot Developer (Copilot Studio & Power Platform)
Role Summary
We are looking for a Senior Microsoft Copilot Developer to own the architecture, delivery, and governance of Copilot Studio agents, Power Platform solutions, and AI-enabled automations across the business. Beyond hands-on development, you will set technical direction for how Copilot/Power Platform solutions are designed, secured, and scaled across the organization; make build-vs-buy and platform-extensibility calls; and mentor other developers. This role is based on a synthesis of current senior-level “Copilot Studio Developer,” “Microsoft Power Platform Developer,” and “Copilot Studio & Automation Developer” postings across LinkedIn and other public job boards.
Key Responsibilities
- Copilot Solution Architecture: Architect and lead the build of Copilot Studio agents and multi-agent solutions (topics, conversational flows, prompts, knowledge sources, authentication patterns) spanning multiple business units, ensuring designs are reusable and scalable rather than one-off.
- Power Platform Leadership: Set technical direction for Power Platform solutions — Power Automate, Power Apps, Dataverse, and custom connectors — including environment strategy (dev/test/prod), tenant-level governance, and ALM practices across the organization.
- Enterprise Integration: Design and oversee complex integrations between Copilot/Power Platform solutions and Microsoft 365, Azure services (Azure Functions, Logic Apps), ERP, and other enterprise systems via REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, and OpenAPI/Swagger specs.
- Generative AI Strategy: Define and evolve prompt engineering, grounding, and context-management standards for generative AI agents built in Copilot Studio and Azure AI Foundry; evaluate emerging Copilot extensibility options (declarative agents, plugins, Teams Toolkit, Azure Bot Framework).
- Governance & Responsible AI: Own governance: define (not just implement) Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies, Responsible AI guardrails, and authentication/identity standards for Copilot and Power Platform solutions org-wide, in partnership with IT/security leadership.
- DevOps & Release Engineering: Establish CI/CD, source control, environment promotion, and release engineering standards using GitHub or Azure DevOps; drive adoption of these standards across the team.
- Mentoring & Technical Leadership: Mentor and review the work of mid-level and junior Copilot/Power Platform developers; act as the escalation point for complex technical or architectural problems.
- Strategic Decision-Making: Make and justify build-vs-buy, platform, and licensing/ROI decisions for Copilot and Power Platform initiatives; present recommendations and trade-offs to engineering and business leadership.
- Monitoring & Optimization at Scale: Own agent performance and analytics strategy (containment rates, adoption, business value) across the portfolio of deployed agents, not just individual solutions; drive continuous improvement.
- Documentation & Enablement: Own solution architecture documentation, reference patterns, and reusable component libraries; run internal enablement/training for business power users and other developers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline; equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Experience: 5–8+ years of Microsoft software development and low-code application development experience, including at least 2–3 years building and scaling solutions with Microsoft Copilot Studio or Power Virtual Agents.
- Power Platform Architecture: Proven track record architecting and governing Microsoft Power Platform solutions at scale, including multi-environment strategy, ALM, and tenant-level governance (not just building individual flows/apps).
- Programming: Strong code-level proficiency in C#, JavaScript/TypeScript, and/or Python; expert-level Power Fx for complex logic, custom connectors, and plugin development.
- Cloud (Azure): Deep, hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure — Azure Functions, Logic Apps, Azure AI Foundry/Azure OpenAI Service, Application Insights — including cost, performance, and security trade-offs at enterprise scale.
- Integration & Data: Strong understanding of REST APIs, OAuth 2.0, OpenAPI/Swagger, and SQL, with experience integrating Copilot/Power Platform solutions into ERP or other complex enterprise systems.
- GenAI Strategy: Demonstrated experience defining prompt engineering, grounding, and Responsible AI standards for generative AI agents (not just applying standards set by others).
- DevOps Leadership: Experience establishing (not just following) CI/CD, source control, and release engineering practices using GitHub or Azure DevOps for a team or organization.
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience mentoring developers and/or leading technical design reviews.
Preferred / Nice-to-Have
- Microsoft Certified: Power Platform Solution Architect Expert, or equivalent senior-level Power Platform/Azure certification.
- Experience leading a Center of Excellence (CoE) or platform governance function for Power Platform/Copilot.
- Experience with GitHub Copilot or other AI-assisted development tools, and evaluating their adoption across a team.
- Experience presenting technical strategy and trade-offs to executive or senior business stakeholders.
- Prior experience supporting global or cross-time-zone operations at enterprise scale.
